Javier Ambrossi's Unexpected Journey Through Television

Jun 3, 2025, 13:04

Javier Ambrossi, a Madrid native now aged 40, first appeared on the small screen in 2004, playing a biker encountering a burning man in the series El Comisario. However, his true television debut occurred earlier, when he was a university student selling HP computers on the tele-shopping show La tienda en casa. The opportunity arose by chance when Ambrossi accompanied a friend to an audition, as he recently recounted to Mara Torres on Cadena SER.

"It was my first job and the first time I was paid for something. I was studying journalism and met Sergio, who became my best friend for years. On the day we met, in the elevator, he mentioned he was an actor heading to a commercial audition. So I said, 'Why not go along?'," Ambrossi explained, who premiered the series Mariliendre with his partner Javier Calvo on April 27.

The co-director of Paquita Salas recalls being unexpectedly offered the role after the audition: "Hey, do you want to do La tienda en casa?" To his surprise, the show aired every night for four years, he laughed with Torres, noting how captivating the program was and adding, "I was part of many people's dreams and nightmares in this country."

Ambrossi shared details of the advertisement: "I was testing the HP computer, plugging in USBs, moving the mouse, all while portraying a happy family. For a long time, people would recognize me at night and say, 'Look, it's the HP guy.' La tienda en casa stayed with me for years," emphasized one half of the renowned duo Los Javis.

In the interview conducted on May 27, Ambrossi acknowledged his sister, actress Macarena García, played a part in his career's progression. He described the challenges of coping with her success when she won the Silver Shell at the San Sebastián Festival. After the awards ceremony, he returned to a hostel with his father due to financial struggles, as he was trying to establish himself in the film industry.

Come August, Ambrossi will embark on filming La bola negra, a movie he co-directs with Calvo, exploring the life of Lorca and the experiences of being gay across different eras. This film will feature Penélope Cruz, Miguel Bernardeau, and Guitarricadelafuente as the lead, marking his debut in acting.
