PSOE Criticizes Mazón's Administration for Negligence During Deadly Flood

Jun 3, 2025, 13:03

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has presented official documentation highlighting that several cabinet members from Carlos Mazón's administration were at home during the severe flooding event in Valencia, which claimed 228 lives last October. José Muñoz, spokesman for the Socialist Group in Les Corts, shared these details in a press conference following the spokespersons' meeting.

Muñoz emphasized that while the Generalitat provided vehicle journey information for nearly all the council members, they failed to disclose the movements of Mr. Mazón. He stated, "For the first time, we have access to the actions of former Justice and Interior Councilor Salome Pradas during the flood incident." Muñoz further claimed that the Popular Party discarded Pradas as politically expendable, yet continues to shield Mr. Mazón.

The documentation reveals that significant figures like Councilor Merino, responsible for finance, was reportedly at home at 19:20, as hundreds of Valencians struggled in the floodwaters. Rovira, overseeing education, arrived at his residence at 15:30 while schools remained operational. The Infrastructure Councilor, with disruptions in metro networks and damaged roads, was at home by 19:30, and the Agriculture Councilor's official vehicle ceased operations at 19:30.

Muñoz concluded with a strong condemnation, arguing that none of them are fit to continue leading the Generalitat Valenciana due to their incompetence and negligence, which entirely discredits the Popular Party. He stressed that the situation demands elections, not mere replacements, as the Valencian society deserves a chance to vote. "We've transitioned from a Popular Party where everyone ended up in jail to one where everyone was isolated and unaccounted for," he remarked.
