Clint Eastwood Debunks Fake Interview Allegations
On May 31, Clint Eastwood celebrated his 95th birthday, reaching this milestone in a quieter phase of his life. Since 2021, he has stepped away from acting and public appearances, opting for a more private existence. Throughout his illustrious career, Eastwood has worn many hats—actor, director, producer, and composer—contributing to over 80 films over the past seven decades. Despite retreating from the limelight, his name and opinions continue to capture public attention.
Recently, international media picked up on an alleged interview Eastwood gave to the Austrian outlet Kurier, which quickly went viral due to its contentious remarks about Hollywood. Even notable news agencies like Reuters echoed these claims. However, Eastwood has publicly denied ever having such a conversation, clarifying the situation through Deadline, a reputable Hollywood-focused publication that also mistakenly circulated the fabricated quotes.
“There have been some recent reports about me,” Eastwood stated. “I want to set the record straight. While I can confirm that I’ve reached 95, I have not given any interviews to Kurier or any other writer recently, and the interview is entirely false.” His clarification is particularly significant since Deadline was one of the platforms that helped spread these unfounded statements, contributing to their rapid proliferation.
The fabricated interview attributed to Eastwood criticized modern cinema's reliance on remakes and franchises, lamenting the lack of original ideas. He was quoted as nostalgically recalling the days of small-studio creativity, stating, “We live in a time of remakes and franchise films... My philosophy is: do something new or stay home.” The article also falsely claimed Eastwood was eager to continue making films, which disappointed fans who hoped to see him return to the screen.
In the wake of Eastwood’s rebuttal, Kurier has added a note to the questionable piece, acknowledging the actor’s accusations and promising to investigate the matter further, taking into account the time zone differences with the U.S.
Eastwood’s most recent project, "Jury No. 2," released in 2024, achieved limited success in the U.S., despite receiving positive reviews. Until he personally announces new projects, this film remains his latest work. Meanwhile, Eastwood enjoys his role as a father and grandfather, dedicating time to his family, which includes eight children from six different relationships. His daughter Francesca shared in an interview, “It’s great when he’s around, he’s so engaged, but he does have a busy life.” Many of his children have followed in his footsteps in the film industry, albeit to varying degrees.
