Dua Lipa's Literary Obsession Finds a Home on Spotify: A Dream Realized

Jun 3, 2025, 11:25

Dua Lipa, the London-born pop sensation, who boasts nearly 70 million monthly listeners on Spotify, is known for her chart-topping hits like "Don't Start Now" and "Levitating." However, the singer is now venturing into territory far removed from her musical roots—literature. Starting June 10, Spotify will introduce listeners to the Service95 Book Club, a videopodcast where Dua shares her passion for books alongside interviews with authors, as exclusively reported by Deadline on June 3.

The podcast, which Dua Lipa founded, promises honest, inspiring, and deep conversations. It features not just renowned artists, thought leaders, and cultural icons, but individuals who deeply inspire Dua herself. The program, last aired in 2023, invites listeners to hear Dua and her guests exchange untold stories and offer unique perspectives on topics ranging from reinvention and the world of psychedelics to the complexities of maintaining relationships.

After launching her podcast in 2022 following the success of her book club, Dua Lipa's Service95 Book Club has undergone a rebranding. Spotify's audiobook editor, Roshni Radia, welcomes this addition, stating that Dua's unique style and evident passion for literature make her an ideal fit for Spotify's creative ecosystem. This collaboration aims to captivate Dua's music fans, encouraging them to explore new authors whose audiobooks are accessible directly on Spotify.

On June 2, Dua Lipa unveiled her summer reading list, including "This House of Grief" by Helen Garner, a nonfiction account of a father accused of crashing his car, leading to the drowning of his children. The second recommendation is "Dream Count" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a novel about four women navigating love, desires, and aspirations. Lastly, she suggests "Fearless and Free" by Josephine Baker, the memoirs of the iconic French dancer and singer, newly published in English.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Dua told Deadline that discussing fascinating books with friends is one of reading's joys, but her ultimate fantasy is having the author present to answer questions about their created worlds. With the Service95 Book Club podcast, she lives this fantasy by sharing a beloved book each episode, accompanied by its author. For someone deeply obsessed with books, this venture is a dream come true.

In 2024, Dua included "La mala costumbre" by Alana S. Portero among her literary picks, even interviewing the Spanish author. She confessed that the book, set in the 1980s in Madrid's San Blas neighborhood, evoked a powerful emotional response. Although Dua Lipa has not formally announced her podcast's Spotify debut, she recently launched its Instagram profile, hinting at a return. Her latest post on the Service95 Book Club page, now with over 10,000 followers, declares, "Some books change your mind. Others change your world," emphasizing the club's mission to offer a fresh perspective through in-depth analyses and global discoveries.
