Real Madrid Player Faces Legal Battle Over Involvement in Unlawful Video Distribution

Jun 3, 2025, 11:09

The legal representative of a minor featured in a controversial video recorded by three former Real Madrid youth players in 2023 is demanding a four-year prison sentence for Raúl Asencio. Asencio, who currently plays for Real Madrid's main squad, is accused of knowingly sharing the video, which was recorded without consent. The lawyer confirmed to EFE that they have requested a trial initiation for charges related to the disclosure of secrets and child pornography against players Juan Rodríguez, Ferran Ruiz, Andrés García, and Raúl Asencio.

The first three are accused of unlawfully recording and distributing a sexual video involving a minor, seeking a sentence of four years and ten months. Although Asencio was not present at the consensual encounter involving his teammates and two young women, he is charged with sharing the video, aware that it was recorded without permission, that the victims requested deletion, and that one participant was a minor.

A second legal accusation by another young woman in the footage has yet to be filed, but her lawyer indicated similar charges are expected. The Civil Guard failed to recover the videos from the accused's phones but found group chats where they were allegedly shared, prompting the accuser, 16 at the time, to request that message recipients testify as witnesses.

The incident occurred on June 15, 2023, at a beach club in southern Gran Canaria when the four players, aged 20 and 21, met three young women. A court document highlights that one informed the players of her minor status. The minor and an 18-year-old agreed to go to a private cabin with Ruiz, Rodríguez, and García, while Asencio remained at the general pool. Upon discovering they were recorded, the women demanded deletion, which Ruiz did, though the videos persisted, leading to widespread distribution via messaging apps.

Asencio re-engaged a week later, requesting a video from Rodríguez, which he viewed and shared, acknowledged in a voice message. Asencio maintains he neither recorded nor distributed the images, asserting his non-involvement in any actions violating women's or minors' sexual freedom.
