Yassine Ouhdadi's Paris 2024 Gold Medal Stripped Due to Doping Violation

Jun 3, 2025, 09:17

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has imposed a three-year ban on Yassine Ouhdadi, a renowned Spanish Paralympic athlete, for violating anti-doping regulations. This decision results in the loss of his gold medal won during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in the 5,000 meters T13 category, a competition specifically designed for visually impaired athletes.

Ouhdadi, a 30-year-old athlete from Catalonia, had previously achieved world champion status in 2023 and secured gold medals in both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, all within the same athletic category.

The athlete's sample tested positive for a prohibited substance, specifically a metabolite of clostebol—a type of anabolic androgenic steroid—during a urine test conducted on July 28, 2024, as reported by the IPC.

As a consequence of this infringement, Ouhdadi will be barred from participating in any sporting events or activities for a period of three years, commencing from September 9, 2024, the day following the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and extending until September 8, 2027. This sanction also entails the disqualification of all results achieved by Ouhdadi from July 28, 2024, to the start of the provisional suspension on February 27, 2025. Thus, he will forfeit medals, points, and awards, including his gold in the men's 5,000 meters T13 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The gold medal will now be awarded to Russian athlete Aleksandr Kostin, the silver to his fellow countryman Anton Kuliatin, and the bronze to Ecuadorian athlete Sixto Román Criollo.
