Lady Gaga Joins 'Wednesday' as the Enigmatic Professor Rosaline Rotwood

by Jim Garrison

Emerging from a coffin that was inscribed with the chilling words, "Here lies the monster queen," Lady Gaga captivated the audience with her spectral appearance at the Tudum 2025: The Live Event. Her ethereal, pale visage and black attire, adorned with vibrant red roses, set the stage for her grand entry into the universe of 'Wednesday' (known as 'Miércoles' in Spain and 'Merlina' in Latin America). As the Oscar-winning artist confirmed her role as the legendary Professor Rosaline Rotwood at the prestigious Nevermore Academy, she introduced an intriguing layer to Netflix's acclaimed series.

The pivotal scene unfolded on May 31st at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles during Netflix's hallmark annual event, expertly hosted by actress Sofia Carson. This gathering was not only a showcase of exclusive previews for productions like 'One Piece,' 'Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein,' 'Stranger Things,' and 'Emily in Paris', but it also served as the stage for Gaga's unforgettable announcement, delighting fans of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Gaga's full name.

In a stunning musical performance, Lady Gaga delivered a spirited rendition of 'Zombieboy' from her latest album, 'Mayhem'. Accompanied by ten dancers mimicking zombies, she set an eerie tone from the onset. The performance intensified as young women, styled in the iconic Wednesday Addams braids and attire, joined in with the viral choreography from the series' 2022 debut, paving the way for Jenna Ortega's dramatic entrance.

Ortega, clad in a sleek gray dress, was led to a table where Gaga awaited, theatrically presenting two human heads as the "main course." The show concluded with Gaga's return to her coffin, slipping back into the mysterious realm from which she emerged.

This collaboration between Gaga and the series is not the first. Her 2011 track, 'Bloody Mary,' witnessed a resurgence in 2022 through viral videos inspired by 'Wednesday’s' choreography. Now, Gaga is not merely a soundtrack but a central figure in a series that ranks as Netflix's second most-watched after 'Squid Game.'

The second season of 'Wednesday' promises to be a thrilling ride, split into two segments with premieres on August 6th and September 3rd—both Wednesdays. While Netflix has yet to disclose the episode count for each segment, the initial six minutes of the first episode, entitled 'Here We Woe Again,' were unveiled at Tudum 2025. The sequence opens with a young six-year-old Wednesday unsettling her classmates with a school presentation about an unidentified serial killer, the "Kansas City Scalper." As a teen, she faces a different dread at airport security, effortlessly passing items like a stun gun, machetes, knives, and a reanimated hand. Yet, a sunscreen bottle over 100 ml is deemed a "grave infraction."

This season boasts a star-studded cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Fred Armisen, alongside newcomers like Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, and Haley Joel Osment. Nevertheless, Lady Gaga is poised to seize the spotlight, ascending as the new queen of Nevermore.
