Jorge 'Koke' Resurrección Extends His Contract with Atlético de Madrid Until June 2026
Renowned Spanish midfielder Jorge 'Koke' Resurrección, the captain and record-holder for the most appearances at Atlético de Madrid with 681 matches, has secured his place with the club until June 30, 2026, as announced by the club on Monday. Koke, who last renewed his contract in March 2024, holds an annual renewal option which both he and the club have agreed to activate following the 2024-2025 season, easing the player's path forward.
Since his debut on September 19, 2009, against Barcelona at Camp Nou under Abel Resino's management, Koke has donned the red and white jersey more than any other player, totaling 681 appearances. At 33, he is among the most decorated players in Atlético's history, clinching eight titles: two La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey, two UEFA Europa Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, and one Spanish Super Cup. The only player surpassing him in accolades is former footballer Adelardo Rodríguez, with ten titles.
Despite a drop in his starting role, Koke remains pivotal for Atlético de Madrid. He started the season as a regular but lost his spot during the team's slump between late September and October. His first major benching occurred against Paris Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes (1-2). Since then, he has started only four matches, the latest being a draw against Villarreal (1-1). Nevertheless, Koke ranks sixth in team minutes played, accumulating 1,249 minutes. With this latest contract extension, the Madrid-born player will don the Atlético jersey for one more season, marking his 17th year with the team.
