RTVE's Tactics Against Melody and Broncano's Response to Her 'El hormiguero' Appearance: "We Must Plan Something"
David Broncano emphasized, “We need to strategize for next Wednesday when Melody appears,” repeating his sentiment twice during La revuelta. This was sparked by the singer's confirmed visit to El hormiguero on June 4, as announced by Pablo Motos the previous Tuesday. Grison humorously retorted, “She'll hit you and drop your ratings by three points,” referencing the physicality of Antena 3’s presenter. Broncano, contemplating the impact, urged his team to devise a plan to counteract the Eurovision representative's presence. “They might pull a Ouija board trick there,” quipped Grison, whose real name is Marcos Martínez. Melody has become a hot topic on television lately, including discussions on RTVE, which propelled her to Eurovision.
While Motos highlighted Melody’s upcoming appearance to actor Luke Evans, Broncano addressed the criticisms Melody had directed at the public network's show during her press conference after her Basel performance. “We don’t plan to apologize,” Broncano asserted, yet he extended an invitation to her for La revuelta to discuss their differences. Melody canceled her appearance on this program and postponed her commitments with RTVE post-Eurovision, choosing instead to spend time with family, delaying her visit to Broncano’s show planned for May 19.
Columnist Eva Güimil remarked, “With La revuelta's team, probably no plans will be made; and we, as spectators, might not remember why we're focused on Melody in 2025.” Broncano noted, “It was arranged two months ago. She got upset, and we don’t know why. She arrived, went straight home, closed her blinds, and is resting there peacefully. We hope she stabilizes emotionally.” Jorge Ponce humorously added, “Melody was collateral damage. If not for this, she’d have surely won. Rigged, rigged. What was she missing, 300 points?” These remarks displeased Melody, who expressed her discontent during the Monday press conference, stating she wasn’t considering a visit to La revuelta "right now": “Hurtful comments from network colleagues affect me. Mental health is paramount. I'll attend shows where I'm respected as an artist. I’m always open to apologies, as we can all err, myself included.” Broncano refused to apologize, arguing, “It's inappropriate to use the mental health card. It trivializes real issues faced by those genuinely affected.”
Opinions also emerged from TVE’s La familia de la tele regarding Melody and La revuelta's clash. Belén Esteban opined, “Broncano handled it elegantly. I support Melody, but we are quite fragile.” Conversely, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo criticized Melody’s stance: “She owes much to this network for reviving her career. She possesses determination, assertiveness, and a commanding presence akin to folk legends.” Another presenter, María Patiño, added, “She lacks gratitude.”
TVE's afternoon show dedicated its initial segment almost entirely to the Benidorm Fest winner for three consecutive days. It confirmed Melody’s planned interview with El hormiguero prior, potentially involving her in Antena 3’s contest El desafío, produced by Pablo Motos. Discussions also arose about Melody potentially appearing on Telecinco’s De viernes this week, where guests are paid. However, this prospect seems unlikely now. Some viewers perceived RTVE’s focus on Melody, with Josep Ferrer mimicking her, as a retaliatory move against her Eurovision critique. Even Silvia Intxaurrondo, TVE morning show presenter, weighed in on Melody’s stance to avoid political commentary on Israel’s Gaza invasion: “Expressing political views is possible, and many candidates have done so without repercussions. We must consider if she's avoiding confrontation or fearing the backlash if she speaks her mind. It’s worth pondering how someone in this country avoids taking a stand on human rights, fearing labels.”
Melody also mentioned Antena 3’s Y ahora Sonsoles during her media interaction. She admonished Sonsoles Ónega for comments about her childhood career with El baile del gorila and earnings post-Eurovision selection. “We should send her the shows, as we merely echoed her words and conditions,” responded the presenter.
