Defendants in Vall d'Albaida Case Deny Allegations or Claim Lack of Memory
In a case that has garnered significant attention, four Bulgarian nationals, aged between 24 and 26, are currently on trial in Valencia for their alleged involvement in a group sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl in September 2020. As the proceedings unfold, these individuals have either denied the accusations or claimed such severe intoxication that they cannot recall the events.
The Fifth Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia has been conducting the trial, with charges ranging from sexual abuse to corruption of minors. The prosecution asserts that the incident began at a rural party where the victim, after consuming three drinks, felt dizzy. This vulnerability was allegedly exploited by two of the accused, who led her to a secluded area where the assault occurred, involving additional unidentified individuals.
Initially, the investigation saw the detention of ten people, but charges were eventually focused on four. On the night of the incident, around 5 a.m., the victim reportedly asked one of the accused for a ride to her grandmother's house. Allegedly, he demanded oral sex in exchange, which she refused, according to the prosecutor's account.
Later, while still disoriented at home, the victim received a message from one of the two men involved in the initial assault, suggesting further sexual activity, to which she agreed. The investigating officer from the Civil Guard concluded that none of the sexual acts were consensual, describing the victim as "innocent" with "low self-esteem."
Victim's lawyer, Juan Molpeceres, highlighted after a session where the defendants testified, that they either denied the incidents or did not address them. One defendant claimed such extreme drunkenness that he doubts his ability to have engaged in sexual acts, despite the lack of evidence supporting this level of intoxication. Another admitted his presence but claimed to have left due to discomfort, and the fourth defendant, accused of requesting oral sex, also denied this allegation.
