Streamlined Tax Filing: In-Person Appointments Now Available at the Tax Agency

Jun 2, 2025, 11:42

On Monday, the Tax Agency commenced a new phase, allowing taxpayers to file their 2024 tax returns in person at agency offices, with appointments necessary by June 27th for services available until June 30th. This initiative aims to facilitate a smoother filing process for those preferring face-to-face interaction.

For those who opt for remote assistance, the Tax Agency offers the "Le Llamamos" program, where taxpayers can arrange telephone appointments by the same deadline, June 27th. This service ensures that the agency contacts individuals directly to conduct their tax filings over the phone.

According to the latest data, nearly 15 million returns have been filed this year. Among these, over 7.9 million refund requests have been processed, totaling approximately 5.516 billion euros, representing 73.5% of the requested amount. The agency anticipates collecting around 19 billion euros, marking a 13.3% increase from the previous year, while expecting to refund nearly 14.9 billion euros, a 9.6% rise.

The agency continues to expand its special video call assistance program aimed at smaller municipalities, targeting seniors over 65 or any taxpayer residing in these areas who meets the service criteria. Launched on May 6th, this program now covers 90 municipalities, with 13 additional ones supported by local governments.

This year, income thresholds for personalized assistance have been broadened: up to 80,000 euros in gross labor income and 20,000 euros in capital returns, applicable for both phone and in-person services.

Digital channels have been strengthened as well; virtual assistants and the Informer have provided more than 920,000 responses, a 65% increase compared to 2023. Additionally, approximately 92,000 letters have been dispatched to warn taxpayers of errors or inconsistencies in filed returns, aiming to prevent future penalties or adjustments.

Regarding security, the Tax Agency reiterates that it never requests confidential information via email or SMS, nor does it process refunds through Bizum or cards. In cases of potential fraud (such as phishing or smishing), it advises against opening links or downloading files.

Notably, individuals with exclusive labor income below 22,000 euros annually (or 15,876 euros if from multiple payers) are not obligated to file. Similarly, those with capital or asset incomes within specific limits are exempt. However, recipients of the Minimum Vital Income and self-employed workers must file returns.

The agency strongly recommends thoroughly reviewing drafts before submission, particularly if there have been changes in family status, rentals, sales, subsidies, or if deductions are to be applied.

For further information or appointment scheduling, taxpayers are encouraged to utilize the Tax Agency's website, app, and dedicated phone lines for inquiries and support.
