On a seemingly ordinary Sunday afternoon, a 19-year-old tragically lost his life in the waters of the Pisuerga River as it flows through Valladolid. Accompanied by two friends, the victim chose to enter the river despite existing bans on swimming in the area. While his companions managed to extricate themselves from the water, he did not. The emergency services of Castilla y León were alerted at 7:17 PM, prompting immediate action. Authorities dispatched firefighters, local and national police, and an ambulance to the scene. The regional emergency service also deployed a helicopter and aquatic rescue specialists to scour the river in search of the missing young man. Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered later that evening.

In a statement shared via social media platform X, the Valladolid Local Police conveyed, "We regret to announce that the Salvage and Rescue Group has recovered the body of the young man who disappeared this afternoon while swimming in the river. Our condolences to the family," alongside images of rescue operations underway.

The incident occurred near the Condesa Eylo Bridge, not far from the Las Moreras river beach. The recent heatwave has drawn many to the river's vicinity, with young people particularly tempted to swim despite prohibitions. While the river's flow has decreased from previous weeks due to spring rains, it still harbors strong undercurrents, thermal contrasts that may shock the body, and hidden hazards such as branches and rocks, making swimming perilous.

The disappearance was quickly reported by the victim's friends, triggering a comprehensive search operation. Additionally, the Psychological Intervention Group in Disasters and Emergencies was deployed to provide support to the family and friends on-site, as informed by the Castilla y León Emergency Unit 112.
