The FBI Probes a "Terror Act" in Boulder, Colorado, with Multiple Casualties
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is delving into an unsettling event in Boulder, Colorado, characterized by its director as a "terror act." Although details remain sparse, local law enforcement and officials are urging caution. Several victims have been transported to nearby hospitals, yet their numbers and conditions remain unclear. The perpetrator is in custody, but both their identity and motives are still under wraps.
At approximately 1:30 PM local time, an attack unfolded at the junction of 13th Street and Pearl Street. Reports from ABC suggest that a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration was underway when chaos erupted. Responding to calls about an armed individual reportedly setting people ablaze, police encountered multiple victims suffering from burn-related injuries, potentially due to Molotov cocktails.
FBI Director's tweet emphasized, "We are thoroughly investigating a targeted terror attack in Boulder, Colorado. Our agents, alongside local law enforcement, are on site, and updates will be provided as available."
Colorado Governor Jared Polis tweeted, "I am closely monitoring the Boulder situation, and my thoughts are with those injured and impacted by this horrific terror act. Acts of hatred, in any form, are unacceptable. As more details emerge, the state collaborates with local and federal authorities to support the investigation. Further information will be shared as available."
Authorities typically exercise caution and await evidence before labeling an attack as terrorist. Patel and Polis opted for the term "terror act" instead. Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn remarked briefly that determining the motive was premature and witnesses were being interviewed. He stated, "Speculating on the motive at this moment would be irresponsible."
The incident area is cordoned off with a substantial police presence, as televised visuals display. Boulder Police reported evacuating several blocks of the usually bustling pedestrian zone, citing "multiple victims" without further elaboration.
