Judicial Elections: When Will the Voting Results Be Announced?
The Judicial Elections in the country have reached their final stage, ushering in a novel process where citizens are empowered to directly elect judges, magistrates, and ministers. This groundbreaking event is set to occur on June 1, when voters will cast their ballots to fill nearly 2,700 judicial positions nationwide.
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has outlined that the vote counting will be conducted within District Councils, supervised by electoral observers—a role for which over 300,000 individuals have volunteered. A distinguishing feature of this election is the ability for voters to select multiple candidates on each ballot, a decision influenced by factors such as the number of positions available and the gender of candidates, as stipulated by the Constitutional Reform related to the Federal Judicial Power enacted in September 2024.
The INE is tasked with calculating the election results, disseminating them, issuing majority certificates to candidates with the highest votes, and affirming the election's legitimacy.
As per INE President Guadalupe Taddei's statement in May, budget constraints have led the institution to forego the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP) and rapid counts previously utilized in election periods. Consequently, the INE will initiate district computations upon the closure of polling stations on the afternoon of June 1, commencing the process for vote tallying.
Due to the complexity and volume of candidacies in the judicial elections, scrutiny and vote counting will not be conducted at Sectional Polling Station Executive Boards (MDCS). These stations will merely classify and count votes by election type, recording the data in the corresponding act, in accordance with guidelines devised by the INE for the preparation and execution of district computations in judicial elections.
Complete vote counting will be carried out at the District Councils across 300 federal electoral districts, encompassing votes from six judicial elections in a specified sequence. The INE has further announced the installation of cameras at locations where vote scrutiny and counting will occur, enabling public observation of the process.
District computations will start on June 1 at 18:00 upon poll closure, concluding by June 10 at the latest. Two methods exist for the counting process:
The counting will proceed according to the following schedule:
Finally, the declaration of validity will be made on June 15, coinciding with the national computation of elections. It is on this date that the final results of the election will be revealed. Following result validation, majority certificates will be issued, and the official publication of results will take place.
