Valencia's Offensive Prowess and Madrid's Unyielding Streak Define ACB Playoffs
The conclusion of the ACB regular season has unveiled the final quarterfinal matchups set to begin this Monday. Valencia will take on Gran Canaria, and Tenerife is pitted against Joventut in thrilling best-of-three series. These contests add to the already anticipated clashes of Real Madrid vs. Baskonia and Unicaja vs. Barcelona, scheduled for Tuesday. Victors from concurrent series will advance to the semifinals.
In the concluding games of the season, Tenerife narrowly lost to Manresa with a score of 86-83, Valencia dominated Breogán with a 108-61 victory, Joventut triumphed over Málaga 78-83, and Gran Canaria fell to Murcia 69-76. Valencia concluded their season with a remarkable offensive display, achieving the highest scoring average of 96.4 points in 37 years. Additionally, they set historical records in three-pointers (461), assists (752), rebounds (1,408), and overall performance rating for a regular season.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid continued their impressive league performance by securing a 104-89 victory against Casademont Zaragoza, marking their 22nd consecutive league win. After being eliminated from the Euroleague Final Four, the team, led by Chus Mateo, has dominated the second half of the Liga Endesa with 17 victories in as many games, culminating in a total of 22 wins, the third-best streak in the competition's history. The top two streaks also belong to Madrid, with 27 wins from October 1984 to March 1985 under Lolo Sainz, and 28 wins from June 2013 to April 2014 with Pablo Laso. Madrid will now face former coach Pablo Laso, now leading Baskonia, in the quarterfinals, beginning Tuesday at the Movistar Arena.
Real Madrid has remained undefeated in the ACB since December 22 in Valencia, triumphing on the courts of Barça, Unicaja, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, showcasing their relentless quest for supremacy.
