Russell Brand Pleads "Not Guilty" to Sexual Assault Charges
British actor Russell Brand has firmly proclaimed his innocence, stating he is "not guilty" of five charges related to sexual assault and rape. These claims have been made by four women in the United Kingdom.
During a preliminary hearing at the Westminster Magistrates Court in central London, Brand maintained his "not guilty" stance for each accusation read against him. These alleged offenses supposedly took place between 1999 and 2005.
Brand, who is currently 49, was released on bail following a brief session in the same court on May 2nd. During this hearing, the charges against the actor and former spouse of American singer Katy Perry were reviewed. As part of his bail conditions, Brand's legal team must provide his addresses in both the United States, where he partially resides, and the UK.
A collaborative investigation by Channel 4 television and the Sunday Times newspaper uncovered these allegations of sexual misconduct against Brand. The purported crimes allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2005, impacting four women. Among them is an accusation of rape, reportedly happening in a hotel room during the Labour Party's annual conference, and another involving a TV employee who accused Brand of groping her breasts before dragging her to a bathroom to force oral sex.
