Marta Riesco Wins Lawsuit Against Anabel Pantoja, Mediaset, and 'Sálvame' Producers for Privacy Invasion

May 30, 2025, 13:02

Marta Riesco, now a prominent reporter on RTVE, previously faced a contentious relationship with her current employers at Sálvame. This tension culminated in a legal case that she won, resulting in Anabel Pantoja, Mediaset, and the former producers of 'La familia de la tele' being ordered to pay her 150,000 euros for infringing upon her honor and privacy.

The court decision mandates that Mediaset and Telecinco must display the verdict on their website within the next three months. Moreover, Mediaset is required to remove content from their streaming service Mitele related to Riesco, broadcasted on Sálvame Naranja on January 17 and 25, 2022, as referenced by the ruling from Madrid's First Instance Court No. 91.

The controversy stems from a segment where Anabel Pantoja described witnessing lesbian sexual encounters at Isabel Pantoja's estate, Cantora, without any news value, aiming solely to boost her public profile. The show further dramatized the scene with gestures by host Jorge Javier Vázquez, while the production team promoted the content. Although Pantoja claimed she never directly named Riesco, the court dismissed her defense, emphasizing that such allegations were made to discredit Riesco publicly.

An additional video highlighted Riesco being insulted by Anabel Pantoja in Vitoria, calling her derogatory names and accusing her of maliciousness. This incident was widespread in media outlets, leading to Riesco experiencing anxiety and taking a leave of absence from her job at 'El programa de Ana Rosa' and Telecinco.

Despite the defendants' arguments, the court ruled in favor of Riesco. Ironically, she later reconciled with the Sálvame team after ending her relationship with Antonio David Flores, Rocío Carrasco's ex-husband. Riesco is now a key reporter for RTVE, having covered major events like the Pope's death, although this was criticized by RTVE's Information Council.

The court highlighted the infringement on Riesco's honor, noting that attributing participation in a lesbian encounter without public acknowledgment of such orientation was harmful and unwarranted. It emphasized the difference between public interest and sensationalism.

This case marks the third legal defeat for Mediaset and 'La fábrica de la tele' since 'Sálvame' ended. Previous rulings included a 200,000-euro payout to María del Monte for hidden camera footage involving Kiko Rivera, and another 150,000-euro settlement for Alfonso Merlos for privacy invasion. The ongoing 'Operación Deluxe' case involves exposing celebrity secrets, though defendants plan to appeal the verdict.

Mediaset has opted not to comment on the case when approached by the press.
