During the interview, host Jimmy Kimmel brought up the ongoing dispute between Donald Trump and several artists, including Bono, Bruce Springsteen, and Beyoncé, who supported the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the recent U.S. elections.

When asked whether he sided with “Trump or Springsteen,” Bono chuckled and remarked, “There’s only one boss in America.” This playful comment was a nod to Springsteen’s nickname, The Boss, effectively diffusing the controversy with humor. The tension between Trump and Springsteen escalated after a London concert where Springsteen harshly criticized certain White House policies.

On Trump’s preferred social platform, Truth Social, which he personally launched, the president demanded an “in-depth investigation” to uncover “how much Kamala Harris paid Bruce Springsteen during the campaign,” along with similar inquiries about Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono himself, suggesting potential irregularities in political contributions.

Bono seized the moment to clarify two points: first, that “being in the same band as Springsteen, Beyoncé, and Oprah is an honor, even if only playing the tambourine”; and second, that he has never been paid for nor hosted a concert in support of any political candidate: “That has never happened.”

The Irish musician also jested about the name of Trump’s social network: “Truth Social seems quite antisocial, and rarely truthful.” Furthermore, he proposed that Trump might be confusing the “singer Bono” with One Campaign, the NGO Bono co-founded to enhance health and economic opportunities in Africa. He emphasized that the organization is “impartial and without partisan ties.”
