Discovery of Missing Family's Boat in Alaska Unveils Human Remains After Nine Months

May 30, 2025, 10:38

The vessel that vanished nine months ago with a family of four during a boating trip in Alaska has been uncovered, revealing human remains onboard. Authorities have confirmed the discovery occurred earlier this month after three private companies volunteered to resume the search for the missing family from Texas.

According to the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the remains have been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies and identification, and the family members have been duly notified.

Back in August 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation in Kachemak Bay, near Homer, following reports of the disappearance of David Maynard, aged 42, Mary Maynard, aged 37, Colton Maynard, aged 11, and Brantley Maynard, aged 8. Despite initial efforts, the search was halted the following day without any successful findings.

In April 2025, hope was rekindled when Suporta Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea, and Benthic Geoscience Inc. voluntarily offered their expertise and specialized equipment to restart the search. By early May, they managed to locate a vessel approximately 55 meters underwater and confirmed it to be the missing boat, containing potential human remains. On May 27 and 28, three sets of human remains were retrieved from the sunken vessel and taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for official identification and autopsy.
