Buenafuente Critiques Melody on TVE: "Thank Goodness, as Her Lyrics Say, a Diva Doesn't Step on Anyone to Shine"

Buenafuente couldn't resist diving into the week's hottest topic: Melody. The host kicked off his show, Futuro Imperfecto, with a touch of irony as he tackled the subject gripping Spain and Europe: Melody's Eurovision press conference.

Known for parodying the singer since his debut on RTVE, Buenafuente quickly referenced Melody's explanations, saying, "Did you catch the press conference? What tension!" He delivered a four-minute monologue about the event where Melody criticized TVE's artistic pressures, defended her retreat to home, and lashed out at other TV programs following her near-bottom placement in the contest.

The anticipation was so high that RTVE almost added a warning label in case of a disaster. Melody's version of Eurovision events extended over an hour and a half, nearly outlasting the festival itself. Buenafuente quipped, "I found it too short, actually. I was at home with popcorn thinking, 'I can't believe this.'" In defense of TVE, he joked, "The conclusion is that if she had performed how she wanted, without others' opinions, she would’ve placed first or close. Thank goodness, as her lyrics say, a diva doesn't step on anyone to shine," following Melody's call for respect from La Revuelta for jokes made about her situation.

Just like Broncano who critiqued Melody for using "the mental health card" to defend herself, Buenafuente didn't hold back. Amidst humor, he pointed out, "Interestingly, she dodged tough questions, shifted some blame, and considered herself a moral winner. Just like a politician," he chuckled. "In summary, the story repeated itself. Her press conference performance mirrored her Eurovision one: high expectations, lots of show, but in the end, it fell flat. No worries though, on to next year!"

Buenafuente further parodied Melody's recurring joke with her call to Lady Gaga, commenting, "Is this supposed to be a joke? I was baffled. To say she dismisses criticism, she concocted a joke that didn't quite land." He reminisced about his experience with UER's policies on political content in song lyrics, correcting Melody again: "She claimed her contract forbade political talk. TVE clarified that it applies only to songs, which can't contain political content, and I can confirm this! I know what I'm talking about. Chiki Chiki originally mentioned Rajoy and Hugo Chávez. UER told us to remove political references, and we did, or else we would've surely won," he recalled about Rodolfo Chikilicuatre's performance he supported from his show.

Since the much-discussed press conference, RTVE has dedicated hours to its Eurovision representative (and Benidorm Fest winner) Melody, before she appears on El Hormiguero after bypassing her agreement with La Revuelta. The afternoon show, La familia de la tele, has also capitalized on the controversy, with Josep Ferrer imitating her and claiming Melody had sealed a deal with Antena 3 before heading to Switzerland.

Even TVE morning host Silvia Intxaurrondo expressed her stance on Melody's non-political views regarding Israel's invasion of Gaza during Maria Patiño's program: "I believe you can express political opinions, and many candidates have done so without any issues. We must pause and consider how someone in this country chooses not to take a stand on Human Rights fearing labels." Amid this tension, RTVE director José Pablo López announced the first change to professionalize Benidorm Fest: from next year, winners will not only go to Eurovision but will also receive a €150,000 prize.
