An Extraordinary Weekend in Barcelona: From Renting Luxury Clothing to Filling the Born with Street Food
Barcelona is poised to reclaim its status as a global gastronomic hub this weekend with the 17th edition of Born Street Food. However, the city is not only catering to the culinary enthusiasts but also to the fashion-forward crowd with the launch of its first store dedicated to renting luxury clothing from emerging brands. Adding to the cultural tapestry, artisans, gallery owners, and artists will open their studios for Tallers Oberts BCN + L’H + Territori, offering an immersive experience in contemporary craftsmanship. This vibrant weekend is further enriched by the debut of the Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona (MIFDB), a feminist film festival spotlighting the works of women filmmakers.
Explore a multitude of artisan workshops scattered across Barcelona. Artworks, typically seen in exhibitions, events, and fairs, come to life in places often unknown to the general public. Thus, the residents of Barcelona have the chance to engage with the latest edition of Tallers Oberts BCN + L’H + Territori. This annual gathering connects citizens with over a hundred workshops of art, design, and crafts spread across Barcelona, l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and other locales like Vic, Anoia, Badalona, or Sant Quirze del Vallès. This weekend focuses on neighborhoods within the districts of Sant Andreu, Nou Barris, Horta-Guinardó, and Sant Martí. Entry is free, and activities range widely, including the captivating glass sector and 3D jewelry printing.
Indulge your senses in the Born district, where a myriad of scents and flavors will flood the streets during the 17th edition of Born Street Food. Aromas from six continents will dominate the event, part of the Born Gastronomic District, featuring participation from fifteen restaurants and gourmet shops. Classic offerings include the blue fish espeto from the Barcelona Fishermen’s Guild, the Parellada paella from 7 Portes, the brut rice from Cadaqués Restaurant, or Vila Viniteca’s cheeses. A notable highlight is the debut of Santa Caterina Market, renowned for its diversity and fame within the city.
For those passionate about innovative fashion, Barcelona introduces Trent, its first luxury brand clothing rental store, featuring names like Blumarine and Coperni. Situated at number 5, Lluís el Piadós Street in Ciutat Vella, the store offers a range of products from blouses and jackets to various accessories. The experience is designed for the public to view, touch, try, and play with their unique style. Most garments are available for rental between four to eight days, with some exceptions. This initiative aims to democratize access to luxury fashion, promoting circular and sustainable consumption.
Barcelona champions feminist cinema with the Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona (MIFDB). "The revision of past women's creative work is an act of survival," reads the manifesto of the festival. From this weekend until July 18, the capital welcomes a dissident, feminist, and passionate cinematic offering aimed at recovering, expanding, and reorganizing female creation in film. Among the standout productions this weekend is Todo documento de civilización, a film by Tatiana Mazú, highlighting women's impact on Argentina's collective history.
