Body of Journalist Discovered in Las Vegas Dumpster

by Shirley Chen

Las Vegas was rocked by the tragic discovery of Matt Kelemen, a respected journalist known for his work in entertainment. His body was found in a dumpster following reports of a foul odor. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) uncovered the grim scene on the morning of May 20 near the National Museum of Organized Crime.

The case took a dark turn as the homicide division took charge, identifying Joseph Del Rivo, Kelemen’s 63-year-old roommate, as the prime suspect. Shockingly, Del Rivo died the next day in a high-speed chase in Utah, crashing and ending his life. Authorities emphasized that the chase was unrelated to the murder investigation.

Local media reports suggest Kelemen may have died from blunt force trauma. His sister, Mikki Zaferatos, revealed investigators suspect he was struck with a hammer. Family members disclosed Kelemen's discomfort with Del Rivo, describing him as "odd, disgusting, and unkempt," and he was considering moving out.

Kelemen's illustrious career spanned over two decades, marked by more than a thousand articles for Las Vegas Magazine. The magazine honored his work, highlighting his commitment to delivering insider information. He was celebrated for collaborating with top publicists, arranging interviews and events.

Beyond Las Vegas Magazine, Kelemen contributed to Las Vegas Weekly and City Life. His peers praised him as an "incredible writer" with a knack for fresh perspectives, even on mundane topics. He was remembered as a kind-hearted man with exceptional character.
