The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year in the Federal Official Gazette. This educational cycle spans 185 days, marking a reduction of five days compared to previous cycles. The change comes with an additional week of vacation, a decision driven by Claudia Sheinbaum's government to enhance teachers' working conditions. This calendar applies uniformly to both public and private schools under the national education system.

School Start Date
The new academic year is set to commence on Monday, September 1, 2025, a shift designed to incorporate the extra week of rest announced by authorities in May. “In Mexico, students leave in July and return in August, having a bit more than a month off, while teachers return earlier for work,” Sheinbaum explained during a press meeting. “Hence, we proposed an additional week because they deserve it.”

Official Holidays
The first school holiday will be on Tuesday, September 16, in celebration of Mexico's Independence Day. Other official holidays include the Mexican Revolution Day, moved to Monday, November 17. Scheduled Vacations
Winter break is from December 22, 2025 to January 9, 2026. Spring break begins on March 30, with classes resuming on April 13. The school year concludes on July 15, marking the start of summer vacation.

Other Important Dates
As established, teachers will convene on the last Friday of each month to review and discuss the curriculum, part of the School Technical Council meetings and ongoing training workshops. This year also includes a day of awareness about sexual abuse and child mistreatment, scheduled for September 8.

Pre-enrollment Period
The pre-enrollment process for students entering the 2026-2027 school year in preschool, first grade of elementary, and first grade of secondary school will occur from February 3 to February 13, 2026.
